Jade Emperor's birthday celebration at Tee's restaurant, Kayu Ara
Well wishers and friends gathered at Tee's restaurant, awaiting the stroke of midnight to usher in the most important day for the Hokkiens in the Chinese Lunar calendar – the 8th day of the Chinese New Year, or the Jade Emperor’s birthday.

Adun Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh and her team, together with residents and the business community, held this celebration at the sports complex. The Subang Jaya community came in force to join in the party.

Citizen groups presented interesting items, which included a Kungfu fan dance. Juwita Suwito was also there to liven the evening with her vocals. I found the show very enjoyable.

Guests of honour included Speaker YB Teng Chang Khim, YB Teresa Kok, YB Loh Gwo Burne, YB Gobind Singh Deo, YDP Tuan Adnan, and local councillors Rajiv, Robert Tan and Michael Soon.

8pm: Pakatan Rakyat Selangor celebrates CNY at the Dong Zen Temple in Jenjarom
I went with MBPJ councilors, Cynthia and Michael Soon, to join the Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid, the State Excos, Aduns, and other councilors for the CNY celebration at the Dong Zen Temple in Jenjarom.

The temple grounds was packed with locals and visitors - easily 50,000 persons altogether. The Dong Zen was decorated and lit like a fairyland, in keeping with the spirit of Chinese New Year.

The Pakatan Rakyat wakil-wakil rakyat of PJ Selatan hosted a CNY bash, which was well attended by guests and well-wishers of all races.
With Puan Sri Saadiah, YB Tian Chua, YB Hee Loy Sian, YB Haniza, YB Edward Lee.
YB Wan Azizah and YB Khalid Samad joined us shortly after.

The DUST welfare team together with Lum from Tmn Bkt Mayang Emas distributed about 1500 ‘eco’ bags and 3000 golden mandarin oranges to the shoppers.
We took the opportunity this year, to promote the Selangor government's ‘sustainable environment’ message when conveying season’s greetings in the local neighbourhoods.
The helpful villagers formed an efficient queue, and the entire operation ended at 920am.

The Basketball Court was full with some 400 locals as temple official Loke and generous donors handed out food parcels to about 300 senior citizens. A contribution from my ADUN allocation helped to fund some of the food.

My office and the JKKK of the New Village organized an early CNY do at the Section 17A N/V (Kg Baru Seri Damansara Dalam).
The Wright Chinese musical orchestra, the Temple Lion Dance and a Chinese acrobatic duet provided entertainment for the night. Everyone enjoyed the evening while tucking in some halal buffet food.
Six single parents were given angpows of RM500 each. Litrak, through its corporate caring programme, gave angpows to more than 200 children. These lucky kids of all races also received angpow packages from me.
Present along with me were MBPJ councilor Michael Soon, village head Chin Kok Keong and his committee, SRK Chung Hwa PIBG Vice Chairman Hew, James Ooi and DUST team members, as well as Tan from the Chempaka Buddhist Lodge.

Tamera chairman Francis Lee, Taman Megah Market Hawkers Association representatives and I greeted shoppers at the market with 3000 mandarin oranges in 1500 green ‘eco’ bags.
The CBL launched the CNY season in traditional style. I was present to light the candle in a symbolic gesture..

We found a hamper at our doostep - a security guard in the vicinity told us that 2 persons had climbed over the gate to deposit it. As it is the policy of DUST (Damansara Utama Support Team) not to accept gifts, our onward destination, the NGO ‘Lovely Disabled Home’ became the lucky recipient of the hamper from Su_____ Sdn. Bhd. I wish to thank the company for their generous contribution, which has benefited this OKU group.
